Follow the appropriate steps based on your license file.
Download the Linux installer file and the standard license file to your Downloads directory. Press CTRL+ALT+T to open a terminal window. Type cd Downloads, then press Enter. Unzip Matlab. Linux - Standard
- Download the Linux installer file and the standard license file to your Downloads directory.

- When the archive finishes decompressing, type cd R2019a/R2019a, then press Enter.
- Type sudo ./install, then press Enter.
- Type your system password when prompted, then press Enter.
- Select Use a file installation key, then click Next>.
- Select Yes, then click Next>.
- Select I have the File installation Key for my license.
- Open File Manager, and browse to the location to where the license file was extracted.
- Open the file (MATLAB_<version>_Key_Standard.txt) from the extracted license files and locate the Installation Key.
- Copy and paste the Installation Key into the installer field, then click Next>.
- Choose an installation folder and note the path. You will need to navigate to this directory each time you want to launch Matlab, unless you create a symbolic link (shortcut). Click Next>.
- Click Create symbolic links to MATLAB scripts in, then click Next>Install>.
- Click Next> when installation is complete, confirm that Activate Matlab is checked, then click Next>.
- Select Activate manually without the Internet, then click Next>.
- Select Enter the full path to your license file, then click Browse. Navigate to the directory where you unzipped the license file download. Select the License.dat file, then click Select > Next > Finish.
Open Matlab
- Press CTRL+ALT+T to open a terminal window.
- Type cd /usr/local/MATLAB/R2019a/bin, then type ./matlab to open Matlab desktop.
Linux - Standalone Edition
- Download the Linux installer file and the standalone edition license file to your Downloads directory.
- Press CTRL+ALT+T to open a terminal window, type cd Downloads, then Enter.

- Log into your Mathworks account. If you don't have an account, select I need to create an account and create one. Use your Andrew, SCS or ECE email and create a password.
- Select the Standalone license on the License Selection Screen, then click Next. If you do not see this, go to the next step.
- If you were unable to select the license in the previous step, select Enter an Activation Key. Locate the Activation Key file in the MATLAB_<version>_Licensing_Standalone.txt file, and follow the onscreen instructions.
